Central High Atlas Family Trek
10 Days, 5 Days trek, Period: Spring to Autumn, Level: Easy to Moderate , Assistance:
In the heart of the High Atlas, the Berbers lead a peaceful life following the rhythm of the seasons.
After the last snows melt, the valleys adorn with nice spring and summer dress. This period is the ideal
for a superb family trek. Assisted by an attentive and competent team of guide and muleteers, our
young trekkers and their parents will be lead to discoverof a stunning nature and a welcoming culture.
Starting from "the happy valley", we follow the flow of the Mgoun River till the sublime Achabou
Gorges. Coming out of the Canyons marks our passage to the southern side of the Atlas and the reddish
villages get the aspect of real sand castles…
Day1.
Marrakech
Arrival to Marrakech Airport, where you will be welcomed by your guide and driven to your hotel in the city.
Overnight in 3* hotel on half board basis.
Day2.
Marrakech - Azilal - Bouguemez Valley / 5h30 road transfer / 1h00 walk
After breakfast, we drive east to Bouguemez Valley via Azilal, lunch or picnic on route. We arrive to our
lodge around midday. A short ramble in tush fields and night at 1850m.
Day3.
Bouguemez Valley / 4h00 hike
An easy day walk to discover the valley and its amazing villages. You will have the opportunity to witness the
Berbers traditional way of life. Overnight at the same lodge.
Day4.
Bouguemez Valley - Tighremt n’Ait Hamd / 5h00 hike
Certainly the most challenging day of the trek, so an early start is needed to climb the Tizi n'Ait Imi Pass at
2960m. Our effort will be largely rewarded by the superb panorama on the Mgoun range far south and the
green stripe of the Bouguemez Valley north. Our way down will take us to Tighremt n'ait Hmed, where our
camp is set at 2280m .
Day5.
Tighremt n’Ait Hamd - Ighrem Izdern / 5h00 hike
A nice day to discover the Ouzighimt Valley and the beautiful adobe villages. The women dress differently
here with a lovely hair dress. After Tighreft and wawchki, we will reach Ighrem Izdern place of our camp at
2000m.
Day6.
Ighrem Izdern - Taghzout / 5h00 hike
With our mules and crew, carry on our way down the valley. There are less and less fields as the valley is
getting narrower to become a real canyon. From ditch to ditch we follow the Mgoun River till Taghzout, a
small hamlet where we camp at 1850m.
Day7.
Taghzout - Aguerzega / 4h30 hike
A hillside path will take us to an impressive view on the Mgoun Gorges. We will walk down by the Taskalia
Passage, a masterpiece of the local "engineers", to accede to Achabou, the highlights of our trip. The canyons
now are as large as 3 meters! After the viallge of Tighanimine, you will notice the change of the architecture
and discover the first kasbahs. Our last camp is set near Aguerzega at 1750m.
Day8.
Aguerzega - Ouarzazate - Marrakech / 6h30 transfer
An early start this morning for a quite long drive. After faerwell to our muleteers and their mules, our vehicle
will be waiting for the return drive to Marrakech. The first 15 km of the journey will be off road on desert
piste before rejoining the tarmac at Boutghrar. We will then continue to Ouarzazate and the Tishka Pass on
road, overnight in a Riad on Bed & Breakfast basis.
Day9. Marrakech
A whole day to explore the vibrant Marrakesh! There is a lot to see and visit from the souks to palaces and
museums or enjoy a mint tea on a terrace overhanging the amazing Jamaa Lafna Square with story tellers,
snake charmers... Overnight in Riad in Marrakech, Bed & Breakfast basis.
Day10. Return flight
Depend on your flight schedule a transfer is organised to Marrakech Airport for your flight back home.
Overnight in 3* hotel on half board basis.
