Far south from Ouarzazate, passed Zagora and the Draa Oasis towards west, the thin range of Djebel
Bani stands as the last obstacle before the great desert. That's where we invite for a family adventure
in the heart of the Sahara desert. You will experience the nomad way of life accompanied by an
experienced team and their loyal camels. You will enjoy the quietness of the starry nights, the beauty
of the shapes and the colours, and even the simple pleasure of rolling from the top of a dune. This trip
alternates a variety of desert landscapes: canyons, gueltas, oasis and sand dunes. It is certainly the
best initiation to the Saharan ambiance.
Day1.
Ouarzazate
Arrival to Ouarzazate Airport, where you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel in the
city. Overnight in 3* hotel on half board basis.
Day2.
Ouarzazate - Zagora - Djebel Bani
After an early breakfast, we drive south to the legendary Draa Valley, valley that we follow from Agdez till
Zagora. We join Oued Feija on the north side of the Bani where we meet our caravan (4h30 drive). After
loading the camels we cross the pass of Foum Laashar. Through some impressive sandstone slabs, we reach
our 1st camp at Tifekhsit (3h30 walk).
Day3.
Djebel Bani - Oued Mhasser / 4h30 hiking
We go down the Mhasser canyons, where the miraculous presence of water gave birth to superb gueltas and
oasis. During our walk, we might encounter some nomad families. We camp at Amda n'Oumssaoui after 4h30
walk.
Day4.
Oued Mhasser - Samra Dunes / 5h00 hiking
Following the steady rythme of our caravan, we cross to thesouthern side of the Djebel Bani. The line of the
first sand dunes appears as a mirage far in the distance. Through a vast stony plateau we reach our 1st
bivouac in the dunes.
Day5.
Samra Dunes - Chigaga / 4h30 hiking
The day will be spent exploring and climbing the dunes of Ebidiiya before we ascent the highest dune of the
Erg: 150 meters, with a superb view on the whole area and our camp site further north. Camp will be pitched
in the dunes of Ebidlya.
Day6.
Chigaga - Erg Elghoul / 5h00 hiking
We will be hiking a long the luxuriant oued rtam with an interesting vegetation of Calotropis and big tamarisk
trees. This area knows a concentration of nomad families. Our lat camp in the Sahara will be set at the dunes
of Erg Elghoul.
Day7.
Erg El Ghoul - Foum Zguid - Ouarzazate / 1h00 hiking - 5h30 transfer
An early start this morning for sunrise on the desert. After farewell to our camel men and their camels, our
vehicles will be waiting for the return drive to Ouazazate. The first 70 km of the journey will be off road on
desert piste before rejoining the tarmac at Foum Zguid. We will then continue to Ouarzazate on road,
overnight at 3* hotel on half board basis.
Day8. Return flight
Depend on your flight schedule a transfer is organised to Ouarzazate Airport for your flight back home.
