East West traverse of the Occidental High Atlas Adrar n'Dern 4001m & Toubkal 4167m

10 Days, 7 Days trek, Period: Summer / Autumn, Level: Sportive +             

       Assistance:

In an east west traverse, we cover the Occidental High Atlas from its wildest part. Starting from the  Zat Valley, we discover red sand stone high plateaus before we get engaged in superb canyons carved  in granitic rocks. After a "mineral" world, the lush green valleys on the southern face of the Toubkal  hospitably welcome us and the turquoise waters of the high lake Ifni will refresh us before the big  ascent…   
Day1. Marrakech Arrival at Marrakech airport where you will be welcomed by your guide and transfer to your 3* hotel in the  medina of Marrakech, overnight on half board basis.  Day2. Marrakech - Yagour Plateau/ 8h00 trekking / Altitude, gain: 1450m; loss: 500m Early departure towards and the village of Larbaa n'Tighedouine where we meet our muleteers. We start our  trek at 1200m by a long regular uphill path. At the highest point of the day, we reach the summit of Adrar  n'Yagour at 2600m. We enjoy the stretched view on the Houz Plain before we join our first camp is settled at  2230m after 8h de trekking.  Day3. Yagour Plateau - Ourika Valley / 6h00 trekking / Altitude, gain: 500m; loss: 1200m We traverse the Yagour plateau and discover some amazing pre historic carved rocks 2000 bc. We progress  through transhumance territories where herds of sheep and goats breed during summer time. We leave the  plateau and start a long descent through Berber villages towards the Ourika Valley. After a picnic near the  river we carry on our trek until the village of Agadir n'Ait boulmane near which we camp at 1500m.  Day4. Ourika Valley - Boukchoud  / 7h30 trekking / Altitude, gain: 1200m; loss: 400m Aquatic morning through the gorges of Tamatart, in lucky days we might see colonies of monkeys feeding on  walnut in these superb granit canyons.  After lunch at Assaka, we leave the river and climb the Amenzal pass  2400m before we join a village of the same Name. A long regular climb takes us to our bivouac at Boukchoud  at 2500m.  Day5. Boukchoud - Adrar n’Dern 4001m - Azib n'Ourai / 9h00 trekking / Altitude, gain: 1550m; loss: 1100m We start early this morning for the long ascent of the Adrar n'Dern 4001m. We follow an amazing crest until  the sumit, the long course is largely rewarded by a superb panorama dominating the anti Atlas Range and the  high Atlas summits towards north. Our camp is pitched at l'Azb n'Ourai at 3000m.   Day6. Azib n'Ourai - Lake Ifni / 9h00 trekking / Altitude, gain: 1200m; loss: 2650m A short climb leads us to the Ourai Pass; we could nearly touch the imposing pyramid of the Toubkal  manifesting to us towards north. By a long way downhill we reach the smart village of Amsouzert where our  team can buy some fresh supplies for us as well as for the precious mules. After a refreshing pause and a  good mint tea at Mr Belaid's house we carry on our walk to reach Lake Ifni where we camp at 2300 m  Day7. Lake Ifni - Toubkal Base Camp / 5h30 trekking / Altitude, gain: 1300m; loss: 450m A steep morning walk to climb the Tizi N´Ouanoums (3650 m), and a quick downhill path towards the refuge  Neltner (3200 m). Our Toubkal base camp is set bellow the refuge.  Day8. Base Camp - Toubkal - Aremd - Marrakesh / 9h30 trekking / Altitude, gain: 950m; loss: 2450m A very early start to attempt the summit of mount Toubkal, and why not assist to sun rise over the Atlas  Mountains. On top the superb scenery extending to the Sahara south and magnificent high peaks contrasting  with flat low planes north is really rewarding. We start our long way downhill and join the Ouawgant Valley.  We reach our last lunch spot at Aremd before the last steps to get to our minibus in Imlil 1700m, 9h00 de  trekking. After farewells to our Berber team and the Atlas, a 2 hours transfer leads us to our Riad in  Marrakech, overnight on half board basis.  Day9. Marrakech A whole day to explore the vibrant Marrakesh! There is a lot to see and visit from the souks to palaces and  museums or enjoy a mint tea on a terrace overhanging the world known Jamaa Lafna Square. Overnight  in  Riad in Marrakech,  Bed & Breakfast basis.   Day10. Return flight A transfer is organised from your hotel to Marrakech Airport to take your return flight.

After then, we will hike the Ourika Valley and explore facinating granit canyons. Progressing west, we will be climbing 2  summits above 4000m, you will discover the wild Adrar n’Dern and hike the emeraud Lake Ifni, one of the highest lakes in Africa. At the end, we will end  up climbing Mount Toubkal for an ultimate stage before we reach Marrakech.
